ROYAL MAIL STEAM SERVICE BETWEEN MELBOURNE and DUNEDIN—TENDERS ■will be received at the office of his Honor the Super, intendent of the Province of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, until 4 o'clock of Monday, the 7th day of July, 1862, from parties willing to CONTRACT to perform the undermentioned SERVICE, bypowerful steam vessels, under the penalties for 12 months, commencing by taking up the mails in August:— 1, To leave Port Chalmers with the New Zealand Mails direct for Melbourne, and put the same on board tie English mail steamer there, tender to state the number of days or hours the steamers will require to leave Port Chalmers before the hour fixed for the depature of the English steamer from Melbourne, but seven days is considered a reasonable time. 2. To leave Melbourne with the English Mails direct for Port Chalmers immediately after its arrival; but in the event of its arrival before it becomes due, the time shall only be calculated from the date of its being due. Tender to state how many days or hours the steamer will require to perform that service, but six days it is considered should be sufficient. I Tender may state subsidy required if service, performed within a certain given time, and subsidy reI quired if a longer time is taken, in order that the I Government may be able to determine which to accept. Should a steamer or other vessel from any of the j ports of the province of Southland with or for mails be making for coming alongside of the mail steamer when passiiig any of the said ports of Southland, the said mail steamer shall slop and receive and deliver such mails, or do either, as the case may be. The steamer shall be bound to carry both ways all mails offered. The subsidy to be paid by equal portions monthly. Penalty for each and every failure to perform the up service complete, the amount of the subsidy for the month, and in addition thereto a sum equal to one half more. Penalty for each and every failure to perform the down service complete, within 144 hours after the arrival of the English mail steamer, _£2per hour over and above a further penalty of £100 if tbe delivery be beyond 10 days. The time required for putting the mail on board the Ota°o steamer not to be reckoned. The penalties will not be enforced, provided it be found to the- satisfaction of the Provincial Government of Otago that the delay was occasioned by stress of weather or unavoidable accident to the steamer. The steamer shall not be bound to remain at Melbourne longer than four days after the mail is due, provided its arrival is not telegraphed, but tender to state what additional subsidy (if any) would be required to remain in every case until its arrival. The Government not bound to accept the lowest or any other tender. By order, THOMAS DICK, Provincial Secretary. June 17th, 1862. ■ ' SOUTH DUNEDIN EDUCATIONAL DISTRICT.—In pursuance of the provisions of the Educational Ordinance, 1862, sections 9 and 14, a Public Meeting of the Owners and Occupiers of Land, and Householders within South Dunedin Educational District, will beheld in the Rev.. Dr. Burns' Church upon Friday, the 21th day of July, 1862, at 7 o'clock p.m., for the purpose of electing a_ School Committee for the aforesaid Educational District,which comprises that portion ofr Dunedin City which is situated South and South^vest of St.' Andrew's-slreet, Victoriastreet, and S4ctionl9, Block XIX.
