SEPARATION MOVEMENT.
A general meeting of the Committee was held on Tuesday last, James Kattray, Esq., in the chair, at which it was resolved that the Movement should be entitled the " Middle Island of New Zealand Separation League," and it was intimated by the moTer, J. Vogel, Esq., tliat on a future occasion he would suggest to the Committee the advisability of adopting' the course pursued by many successful political agitations— namely, that of enrolling members on a small annual subscription, and by that means extending the character of the movement, and enlisting alarger field of sympathy. Draft standing orders for the guidance of the Committee were bro.ught up by the Secretary, (Mr. Sboli) and reserved for consideration, and the meeting stood' postponed to the following day. Yesterday the members again met at the Athenaeum", and the chairman being unavoidably absent, W. 11. Reynolds, Esq., took the chair. T. B. Gillies, Esq., moved the notice given by him on a previous occasion, relative to the appointment of a working committee of six ; and after some discussion by Messrs. Casper, Tickle, Dc Carle, and the mover, a motion to the eflbct that the carrying out of the object of the Committee should be entrusted to a select council of six besides the chairman (James Kattrsiy. Esq.,) • was put and passed. It was then resolved, upon the motion of Mr. Vogel, that the names of mem--hers who were likely to undertake the active duties which would devolve u^on the Committee, should be proposed and seconded, and that those gentlemen should then be eligible for ejection. The following names were then put to the meeting and agreed upon as those from whom six should be chosen." viz :—Messrs. Fredei'i'-k "Walker, -K. B. Martin, Julius Vogel, W. H. Reynolds, Thomas Dick. Edward Casper, \V. Tickle, -C. T. Iclr, Frederick Moss, Edward, De Carle, E. P. Kcnyon, A. M'l/.indress, and-; James Kilgour. The Secretary-was instructed to forward election papers.containing the above: names to the members of the Committee request-1 ing them to indicate for whom they proposed to vote. The Secvetary was instructed to call a. further meeting on the result being known. .;
