SYDNEY. (From the Empire,* April, 26th.) : I In,our produce market we have not any material I change to report. Wool has been firm at the prices 1 current last -week. This is attributable to a growing ! scarcity of our chief staple, and a consequent contraction of the facilities for remittance in produce, rather than to any increased confidence in the English market, and it is probable that for the remainder of the wool season the market will be greatly influenced by the current prices of Bank bills. In our market.. for tallow and hides we have little new to report, the depreciation in the local values of both articles of produce having continued throughout the week. During the week the usual public sales of produce have been held. On Thursday Messrs. Mort & Co. catalogued 255 bales of wool, inclusive of several of the parcels withdrawn last week, and to-day offered again for competition. Many lots were again withdrawn for, higher limits than the present state of the markets will afford, and about 100 bales only were disposed of. The. principal lots sold were as follows :—J C, 19 bales scoured, at Is. lOcl. R, 15 bales lambs'wool, light in grease, at 10|d.; WH, 19 bales fleece, at 16-Jd ; JPS 25 bales fleece, at 15|d; and AAA, 57 bales ditto, at 19Jd per Ib. The number of gheepskins amounted to Howards of 3000, chiefly of inferior and ordinary qualities, which realised Irom 2|d to 5-|d per lb.; one lot full-woolled sold for '6§d per lb. The quantity of! tallow offered amounted to 82 casks, of which one lot consisting of 04 casks of good beef tallow, sold for 333 per cwt., and would probably have realised £1 per ton more, but for the inferior quality and conditirn of the casks. Two or three parcels of inferior quality realised 80s to 31s 3d, and two casks of mutton, tallow, 39s per cwt. 1 Upwards of 1300 hides were offered', and nearly the | whole were disposed of at full market prices. The principallots sold were 291 heavy liides, at Iss; 367 heavy hides, at 15s Id; and 78 heavy hides, at 15s 9dj 100 medium weights, at 13s 6d; and 134 medium weights at 13s. 3d. Several smaller parcels of inferior and ordinary qualities were also disposed of at 2s 6d to 8s edeach, In general business we have very little to report, and we have few. alterations to notice in the prices during the past week. .■•■■■ • Liquids.—Brandy: The market has been firmer since the arrival of the mail, and 12s: 6d. may now lie quoted as the fair market value for Martell's. On Thursday last Messrs. Dean and Co. held an extensive sale of spirits and wines, at the stores of Messrs. Scott, Henderson and Co., at which Martell's brandy realised from-12s. 3d. to 12s. Bd. per gallon, according .to quality. Hennessy's dark brandy sold for 12s. per gallon, and Martell's and Hennessy's pale from 13s. to 14s. per gallon.. Bum: In this article we have no alteration to % notice. The market continues as dull as ever ■ Geneva has >■■ not been so saleable, and best brands cannot be quoted 'higher than 14s. 6d. to 15s. 3d. per case, according, to I respective strengths and contents. Whisky, at Messrs. ■ Dean and Co.'s sale realised I2s. 9d. for cases, and 4s. sd. per gallon, in bulk/ Old torn, 13s per case. I Wines : There has been a fair amount of'business I done in" ports .and sherries, and at Messrs. Dean and ■ 1 Co.'s sale on Thursday, considerable parcels were sold ! at 5s Gd to 10s for low to medium ports, and 5s 2d to 14s 3d for low to superior sberriesJn bond. Malt Liquors: In the absence of further arrivals, ale in bulk is again becoming scarce, and there is little or none in first hands. The market has in consequence become firmer, and better prices will be pbtainable until further supplies come to hand. In bottled .ale and porter there Jlas been a fair amount: of business done, without, however, any alteration in quotations. Hour: The f market is exceedingly dull, and we hear of sales of Adelaide town brands at £13 per ton. Candi.es.—There has not been much doing, and we have no alteration of prices to quote. - The market is, however, very firm, and as expected nrrlvals are limited, improved rates may be looked for during the ensuing winter season. ' . Bice.—The market is very firm, and inconsequence of a present scarcity in Melbourne, an advance of £1 per ton has taken plase. We now quote best Patna at £19 per ton, and until further supplies come to hand the market will probably gradually improve^ . Teas.—There have been no sales by auction of any importance during the week, and we have not heard of any private transactions to justify an alteration, in quotations. Sugaks.—The market lias been very quiet, and the only sale by auction of any importance has been that of the Spray, by Messrs. Threlkeld and Co., on Wednesday last, at which the following prices wererealised ;—Ration No. 6, £33 to £34 15s. per ton; and crystals, No. 16, £43 ss. At the same sale several parcels of Mauritius yellow counters were sold at £37 15s. to £3810s. per ton, and China ditto at £34 10s. y , In groceries and oilmens' stores we have nothing of importance to report.
