WAITAHUNA.

(from: ?a correspondent.) ( Communicated.)

A new rush has broken out on the hill side at the back of the Old Union Store, kept by Mr. John Moran, in Waitahuna. On this morning (Saturday), about three hundred diggers were on the ground, and have marked out claims to the top of the hill, and into the gully at the other side. Some are shepherding, whilst others are sinking shafts. But up to four o'clock all the parties who had claims marked off commenced to work, as the holes which were bottomed proved to be able to afford good wages. A few jumping cases occurred, but not sufficient for a Commissioner's case. As much as one pennyweight to the clish-has.been got, and. I know one party who have got 15 dwts. out of 10 buckets of wash, and at only 10 feet sinking. The . wash-dirt is of rich jellow color, and a hard reef bottom; the ground in some places is very good to drive in, but in other claims a drift' exists which will cause the occupants to slab the hole. . ■ . The rush on the opposite side of the hill, facing Mr. Fee's Hotel, is progressing very well. Good gold has been found on the cap of the hill; there is one store there already, and several parties have taken their tents and camped there. The Police Camp has been in tho course of removal this week (by Mr. M'Queen, who has the contract), to the Government township, down at Murray's Flat. I am informed that Captain Baldwin will reside and hold his Court there. . . '

The Waitahuna Flat has now several sluicing parties at work on it, who are making wages working the old ground. There is another rush at Paddy's Point, right opposite Finlay's store. - Three pennyweights, to the tub, but the ground is very bad, it must be timbered from the top, although it does not go deeper than 12 feet sinking. The wash-dirt is of a blue slatey gravel. Several parties are doing well there.
