WAITAHUNA.
(TBOM OUR OWN OORIIISBPONDKUT.) April 30th, 1802. Thero is very little of interest to report from Waitaliuim. Tiie rush to the high range, opposite the Dart Hotel, continues to Increase, and considerable numbers of the miners are doing remarkably-well. As an instance, I heard of one solitary " hatter," who obtained, for his week's work, in three feet sinking, 15 O2S. As much as half an ounce to the tub has been washed from the ground, and there appears to be an impression that the richest portion has not been struck. It is just possible it may tend to the discovery of a lead of gold equalling in richness those formed in the original workings. Tho sinking is shallow and dry. There are about a couple of hundred men at work on the ground. A rush has als» taken place to the Camp-hill,: and from some of the holes bottomed, fair prospects have been obtained. The miners have always looked upon this hill as auriferous, and, as the Camp is in course of being removed to a more eligible site on the flat, Captain Baldwin gave the scquisite permission to work it. It was accordingly rushed at once, and the opinion previously formed as to there being payable gold, has thns been so far confirmed. At the junction of the flat with the old working in the gully, there are a good many persons at work, most of whom are making wages, but no great finds have been made. A good deal of prospecting is going on in this neighborhood, and the prospectors are very sanguine ns to the probability of the discovery of a run of gold through the flat. If this should.be the case, there is plenty of ground for several thousand men. A meeting was held on Tuesday evening- at the Miner's Arms, for the purpose of mnking arrangements for the reception of Sir George Grey, -who is ■ expected la a short time to pay the gold fields a visit. A committee was formed, and it wag decided to give i his Excellency a public reception, and also to invite him to a banquet. " ;,: •■ The building of the new bridge over the Wnitabunais being rapidly proceeded with. The most of the piles have been already driven, and the timber for the supports and roadway is on the ground. This really necessary work cannot bo completed too soon. The population of Waitahuna is, I believe, on the increase, and there appears to be an intention on the part of those on the field to remain during the winter j
