WAITAKI RACES, 1862.

These races took place at Oamarn on the 12th instant. The gathering was not so large as on former occasions, owing to the unusual height of the-Waitaki having prevented tho Canterbury horses from risking the passage of the river. Subjoined is an account of the racing : —

Julius declared to win with Small Beer, who, after a closely contested race, won by three lengths. On the following day three races for untrained horses, for prizes of £10, £10, and £5, given by R. Julius, Esq., the winner of most of the races on the previous day, were won by Mr. J. Lewis' cr. g. ; Dick, Mr. Weedon's Half-caste, and Small Beer respectively.
