TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the Town Board was held yesterday. ' Present : Messrs. Hulme, Cargill, Jcnkinsod, Graham, Hardy and Switzcr. Mr. Shand in the chair. The mimitcs of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, The Clerk read a lette rfrom Messrs. Shorey and Samuels, and from Mr. Culling's attorney, oilering to consent to the alteration of the levels in Princes-street, on condition of the Board consenting to pay the expense of excavating their land to the new level. Also, a letter from Mr. Green requesting the Board either to lower the foundation of his building at once, or toallow him the costs of doing so. These letters were ordered to lie over. A letter from Mr. Hooper was read stating that none of the inhabitants of Hope-street were willing to supplement the Board's vote of £50 towards opening that street, but that he was willing to do the work himself for that sum alone, and on the motion of Mr. Hardy seconded by Dr. Huhne, it was resolved that Mr. Hooper's offer be accepted. The work to be done according to specifications to be prepared by the Clerk to the Board. Mr. Jeukiuson dissenting. The Clerk read a letter from his Honor the Superintendent declining to recommend a loan of £10,000 to the Board, and on the motion of Mr. Cargill, seconded by Dr. Huhne, it was unanimously resolved that the Clerk be requested to write "to the Government requesting them to guarantee the Boards assignments of its rates for the sum of £10,000. Permission was granted to Messrs. Harris to mate a drain across High-street to carry oft' the rainwater from the roof of their stores. In reply to a letter from Mr. John Graham requesting leave to transfer the lease of a ten acre, section, at the Kaikoria to Messrs. H. Miller and Co., ! and also an application from the latter firm for leave to subdivide and sublet the land for villa residences, it was resolved " That Mr. Graham be requested to pay the arrears of his rent before the subject can be considered." Consideration of Messrs. Miller's request was postponed until the previous question was settled. The erection of a pump on the well near the Police Barracks was ordered ts be proceeded with. The question of the appointment of a Town Surveyor which had been postponed from a previous meeting was brought before the Board, and it was resolved to advertise for applications for that situation. Mr. Switzcr gave notice of motion relative to the alteration of level in Manse and High streets. Several accouuts having been passed and ordered to be 'paid, the Board adjourned until Monday next.
