Tub Pout or Bellambi.—The following are tiie di- 1 rections for entering the harbour of Bellambi :— j " Vessels coming from the northward, after passing c the south head of Fort Harking Bight, should steer s S. W. by S. until they see a white sandy point ahead, i which form the eastermost part of Bellambi Bay. < Steering from tliat, a store with iron roof will show i the jetty, which get to bear S.S.W. : that will lead ; into tlie moorings, wliich are buoyed clear of all danger. .< Ships can swing to any one of them in from three to i six fathoms of water. Vessels coming from the south- i ward iViil see to the northward of the northernmost : Hut Peak —a broken point in tlie mountain range, : named Coorimal, called by the coasters Broker's, i Nose, wliich being brought to bear W.S.W., will lead : into Bellambi Bay, clear of both reefs, the eastermost : reef, always showing broken water. Moorings have lately been laid down here by the New South Wales , Government, consisting of lif inch mooring chain, secured by anchors of two tons weight each, lying N.E. and N.W. of each other, in from five to six fathoms. Mooring bridles with red buoys are attached." Bellambi is described as thirty-five miles south of Sydney Heads, on the Illawarra coast, aud as a coaling port for vessels requiring quick despatch, it has peculiar advantages. Vessels drawing thirteen feet of water cau take in all tlieir cargo under the coal from the railway trucks, at-the end of tht tram jetty, 800 feet in length. A tramway three miles long, leads'to the mines, where a clean, dry, superior steam coal is worked in a seam, nine feet thick of pure coal. The Parliament of New South Wales has during the last session voted £10,000 for the erection of a breakwater jn the inner reef, which will extend in a curve about 500 feet, and render the hay of Bellambi perfectly iinooth in any weather. The work is to be comnenced forthwith, and, the materials being on tlie pot, it will no doubt be rapidly brought to coinpleion.
