W. 11. CUTTEN, Chief Commissioner. Waste Land Board Office, Dunedin, 6th February, 1862. CROWN LANDS. LICENSES TO ERECT SAW MILLS AND CUT TIMBER ON THE CROWN LAND. THE following Rules, adopted by the Waste Land Board, for the granting of Licenses to erect Saw Mills and to Cut Timber on the Crown Lands, are published for general information : — All applications for Licenses for the erection of Saw Mills for the purpose of Cutting Timber on Crown Lands will be advertised for one month before the same are granted. If no objection be made to the granting of such license, a license will be granted to the applicant on payment of a fee of £10 per annum for every horsepower of the engine or motive power of such mill. That an exclusive license over 30 acres of timber land for each horse-power paid for will be granted, subject to such modification of this rule as the Board may see necessary to prevent monopoly, aud according to the locality and quality of the timber applied j for. Every applicant must, on making his application, furnish a sketch map of the land over which he wishes his licence to extend, and on his application being: granted, he will be required to mark the outside boundaries of the land licensed to him by blazing the trees, or in such other manner as the Board may direct. Such licenses will be renewed annually by tlie Board for a period of five years. In cases where mills have been heretofore erected, the present occupier will be considered the first applicant for land immediately adjoining' the mill, provided he be willing to comply with these rules. Except in particular cases, licenses will not be granted to cut on both sides of a stream. The fees for mill licenses may be paid half-yearly in advance. \V. H. CUTTEN, Chief Commissioner. AT 7 p.m., on Monday next, the 10th instant, a meeting will be held, at the Court House, Dunedin, as all those who have up to the present date formed or signified their intention in writing and forming the volunteer Rifles.
