Cai'itat,: £7000 ; in 1400 Shares of £5 each. £2 payable upo--, .-."ntinent, and the remainder in calls not cxceedi-.i/ ,£1 each, extending- over a period of Four Months. It is estimated that the cost of putting the ship afloat will be £2000 Amount payable to present proprietors in cash tor purchase of Vessel 1500 Do. by Bills fordo 1500 Fitting' out and contingencies 2000 £7000 IT is proposed to form tlie above Company for the purpose of taking- the steam-ship " Victory" oft the beach, and re-fitting- her for sea. The "Victory" is a screw-steamer of 1000 tons gross register, and fitted with engines of ISO horsepower. "She is known as one" of the strongest and fastest vessels in Australia. She now lies on the beacJi at high-water mark, and on sand, there being no rocks or dangers hi the way of taking' her oii'. She is not strained or injured in any way. Her engines are in perfect working- order; anil, if she were got oir", which Mr. Jiimes'Scott (the Engineer) states may be easily accomplished at moderate expense, she might be lit ted lor sea at short notice, and at a trifling- outlay. Mr. James Scott, of Newcastle, N.S.W., proprietor of the patent slip there, and well-known for his ingenious am! successful accomplishment of similar undertakimrs, proposes to lift the ship and convey her into deep water by means of a hydraulic apparatus (now in use in Euglauit), for which be possesses a patent. Mr. Scott estimates the expense of taking' the ship oif at £-2000. The " Victory" was valued, at the time she was run ashore, at from £25,000 to £30,000 ; find, in the opinion of competent judges, would bo worth the same sum if successfully got afloat again and refitted for sea. The hull of the " Victory" was purchased by her present proprietors, who oiler to hand her over to the Company upon the following' terms: —£1500 to he paid down on giving possession, and £1500 in bills. It will lie for tiie shareholders to determine whether the Company shall sell the vessel and realize their profit, or make arrangements to rim her. The rapid increase of the New Zealand trade iias given greatly increased employment to th;: colonial steamers ; and, owing to the recent loss of several, such vessels are at the present time greatly in demand and enhanced in value. The "Victory is well-known as a vessel eminently suited, from her size and speed, for the intercolonial trade, in which she might be employed with eresit. advantage to the province, and large direct profit to the proprietors. One-half of the shares have already been taken up, aud on a sufficient number being- allotted, a meeting of Shareholders will be called for the purpose of properly organizing- the Company. In the meantime applications for "Shares may ba made at the office of Messrs. R. B. Maktin & Co. Dunedin. Jan. 15, 1802.
