DEATH OF I.AJJY CANNING. '{From the Englishman, Nov. 19.)
It was with the deepest sorrow that we had yesterday to announce the death of Laity Canning, which occurred about half-past two o'clock on that morning. On the'day of her arriv<il from Darjeelinir, her ladyship felt symptoms of il'ivwhich rapidly developed into jungln fever, crtracted, it is presumed, in her journey through the malarious swamps of Purneah. Pears were entertained for her safety, hut on Saturday there was some improvement, and it was hoped tliat the danger was past ; but on Sunday a relapse put an end to all hope, and yesterday morning .the-sad. event occurred, which will cause sorrow throughout India, where no lady has ever secured a deeper respect for her high character, or a stronger personal regard than that inspired by her ■graceful urbanity and-, amiable disposition. Her Excellency Charlotte Stuart. Countes3 Canning, was theeldest daughter of Charles, Lord Stuart ■j&e Rothesay, was 1-oru in 1817, and. at the period "of her marriage, in 1835, was lady of the;-'bad-.-chamber to Her Majesty.
