COMMERCIAL.
Melbourne. —The stormy unsettled weather at the commencement of the week, coupled with the non-arrival of the mail, acted unfavourably # for business, and transactions have been of very slight extent During the last two days, however, since the receipt by telegraph of a digest of the Salsett's advices, a bet er feeling has arisen. Orders from the country have come forward more freely, the town trade' has been brisker, and altogether there seems more disposition for business at the close of the week than has been noticeable for some time past. The items of commercial news received per telegraph from Adelaide on Friday have been eagerly canvas--cd. The decline in shipments for the'month to the extent of ,£200,000 has awakened the hope that shippers are at last rous?d to the fact that our consumption, is limited. The escorts of Gold had much fallen off partly ascribed to the Otago movement ; of the 12,000 miners who left for the New Zealand Gold FicMs, at least 90 per cent, were miners, and in all only 2,020 persons have returned. The last wcek'^ escorts only brought down 28,058 ozs.—From the "Argus," Nov. 18th.
In consequence of the Fire, the Office of the "DAILY TIMES" and '< WITNESS" is TEMPORARILY REMOVED to the New Building next door to the Union Hotel, Stafford-street. Orders Executed as usual.
