COMMERCIAL.
The 5..9. " Oscar " took back to Melbourne a considerable, quantity of returned goods. It must not be deduced from this that it is on account of any glut in our market —but that the Melbourne shippers have thought that they might ship anything, however unsuitable for the market. Although there might have been some slight ground for fearing a glut in this market a short time ago, the recent confirmation of the permanont success of the Gold Eields has entirely removed it — and well selected consignments will meet with ready and profitable sale. The last mail took out very" considerable orders from this place, a proof of the confidence of the mercantile community. At a sale of a portion of the well-bred flock of George Rich, Esq., held, at Cnristchureh a few days :vj-o, 12. imported ewes, by the best French and Spanish blood, realized £400 ; the highest price given for any single ewe being £50. Six imported French ewes fetched £247.; the highest price paid for any single CAve being £55, given by a Melbourne buyer for exportation to Victoria.
