AMUSEMENTS.

ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA

The story of the remarkable feat performed by Sir Ross Smith and Sir Keith Smith of Hying from Britain to Australian will be recounted by Sii" Keith Smith on Holiday next at the Opera House at a matineeand evening performance only. The" narration of the various incidents of the .journey is said to be most fascinating, the lecturer's description of the course, flown, covering a distance of 11.340 miles. In fancy, the audience accompanies the aviators from the beginning of the flight from Hounslow on November 12, 1919, to Lyons, thence to Rome, Crete, and Cairo, which was reached five days ater. The interest is intensified as the machine hovered over the pyramids of Egypt, and then moved on toward Palestine. The Mount of Olives and the Garden of Gethsemane-, are clearly depicted on the screen, and as the aircraft passes on over Persia, India, Malay Peninsula, and finally reached Port Darwin in the actual flying tinie of 13/5 hours, or five days fifteen hours, the interest was intense. Battlefields of El Arish, Rafa. and Gaza are clearly portrayed, as also are beautiful views of the airmen's experiences at different points along the Persian Gulf, with its rugged country extending to Karachi; and so on to Rangoon and Bangkok, through the Dutch Indies and Timor. The final dash oyer 300 miles to Australia, while lacking the picturesqueness of the other parts of the journey, evoked a feeling of suppressed excitement, which found expression in loud and unstinted applause as Port Darwin became visible in the foreground. From that point to Adelaide, and thence to Melbourne, are shown some novel and effective scenes, which were photographed by Captain Frank Hurley, who was the official photographer with the A.I.F. in Palestine. Although the feat itself is remarkable, the same term may well bo applied to the scenes photographed and to the photography. The box plan is at the Britol. and is Sported to be filling up Tapidly.
