NORTH OTAGO A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

The President, Mr J. G. Macdonald, presided over a large meeting of the North Otago A. and P. Association on Saturday afternoon. Mr J. Clyma wrote suggesting that the horses in tho high jump be started off at a height of, say, oft, and that the rail be raised by larger distances thereafter than had previously been done. The Chairman said the idea was a very good one. Low starts and small rises of the bar prevented horses at the finish from doing their best work. It' was decided to refer the matter to the stewards. It was stated that the tender of Mr E. Thome for catering of £55 had been accepted. The 10th Regiment Band secretary (Mr T. W. Dimick) wrote that the Band would play on the second day for £l2 10s, less a donation of £5, the Association to pay for the conveyance of the Band.—The price was agreed to. The relieving officer of tho New Zenland Railways at Oamaru, Mr H Cooper, wrote that trains from Oamaru on November 20 would' be delayed as follows:—Timaru, 4.10 p.m.; Kurow_, 4.45 p.m.; Ngapara-Tokarahi, 5.15 p.m.; Palmerston, 6.10 p.m. Morning trains from Timaru and Kurow would stop at the show grounds to set down passengers, and evening trains from Oamaru will take up passengers at the grounds on both days of the show, with the exception of the mail train on the second day from Oamaru to Muheno, Herbert, Hampden, and Hillgrove. —The letter was received. Mr H. Fulton, Secretary of the Otago Society wrote that in collection with the demands made by the Southland Mill Employees Industrial Union of Workers, a meeting was held of the Farmers' Union and the Otago Society, when claims were considered and assessors appointed to attend the Court on November 19. The writer asked the Association for a donation of £5 to the Otago branch of the Fanners' Union to fight the unjust demands of employees. On the motion of Mr J. A. Macpherson, seconded by Mr Geo. Livingstone, it was decided to give £o to thc_ permanent branch of the Farmers' Union towards the organising defence fund in connection with the demands made by tho threshing mill workers of Otago. A circular was received from the New Zealand Council of Agriculture of resolutions passed at the Conference on October 15. —Received. Mr J. S. Wilson brought up the fact I that when he attended the sale at Timaru recently tho Government valuation on prima ox hides was 13d, and while 50 per cent of tho hides were sold at 13d 50 per cent realised 19d. Mr John Macpherson said that the composition of a West Coast Board of Trade was a shoemaker, a railway clerk, and a lawyer, and while these sort of Boards existed there was not much opportunity of expecting reasonable prices. On the motion of Mr J. A. Macpherson, seconded by Mr A. Murdoch, it was decided to draw the attention of the Board of Trade to the difference between the prices of hides and the finished article. Nominations for the position of auditor wero submitted, and Mr J. M. Bunt was elected. The following new members, were elected: —Messrs J. Burgess (Herbert), W. Tinnock (Waiareka), M. Walsh (Kauroo Hill), H. B. Burton and W. Kingan (Oamaru), Macauley Bros. (Maereweka), William Steflans and W. Lawrence (Kakanui).
