WIRELESS IN THE HOME.
Dr. Lee de Forest, the author of many wireless inventions, announces ■that he is prepared to come to the relief of those suffering from a bad telephone service with a new wireless invention, which obtains the right number and provides an instantaneous service without the use of a central operator. All that is necessary for his system, he sa.ys, is "a bracket and a. desire to converse." He explains that his apparatus consists of a small machine fit-ting into a bracketand attached to the ordinary electric' light wire of private residences. By tuming on the switch it is possible to get into immediate contact with the party 'at the other end. Apart from the fact that an alternating current is used, which is a new step forward in wireless telephony, details are not published. Dr. de Forest says that a set carrying twenty to thirty miles costs £4O. It is not possible at present to secure voice transmission for a greater distance by this' means. He declares that- conversations with his apparatus have already taken place from one end of New York to the other.
