TOKARAHI NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Tuesday evening; the scholars of the local Sunday school -with their parents paid a surprise visit to Mr and Mi>; A. Beck, of Tokarahi, Mr Beck haying sold his farm to Mr RawclifiV of Alma, with the object of making a small presentation to Mrs Beck and Miss Ethel Beck for their good work iu connection with the Presbyterian Sunday School. After spending a social hour or so, Willie Ross presented to Mrs 'Beck* a. Bible and biscuit; barrel, and to Miss Ethel Beck, Edith Holland presented a handbag. Tlie recipients suitably responded. On fhe Thursday evening some of Mr Beck's neighbors, representing the residents, spent a, pleasaut evening- at a. farewell visit to Mr and -Mrs Beck. After a few songs, etc., Mr Hore made the presentation on. behalf of the residents of n. purso of sovereigns to Mr and Mrs Beek, remarking that it was some 22 years ago that Mr Beck took up his section at the ballot, la a few well chosen words the speaker trusted the move. Beck was now making would be for the best. Messrs Murray, Porter, and McCone also made a few remarks. Mr Beck suitably responded, after which ''Auld 'Lang Syne" was sung, and all .dispersed, as Mr and Mrs Beck had had «• busy time attending to the wants of the public, in connection with flic sale of Mr Beck's live and dead stock, as the auctioneers advertise it. / On Friday evening a painful accident befel Jock Blair at the Tokarahi School. PVom what f can gather it appears that a game was being played, and' one of the> boys having a hockey ball thrown to him went to strike at it with a pick handle, missed the ball, and, swinging the pick handle round, struck .Jock Blair across the Dose, and, as I am informed, broke it. Mr McCone- hai>pened to be passing the school iu his ear and drove Jock and his parrents into town to Dr. Douglas. . I understand the nose has to be operated upon.
