CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 31 The removal of the embargo on the export of potatoes has created a little stir in the .local market. The immediate result is that prices have firmed, but tt has not stimulated operations to any appreciable extent. The tendency of the Sydney market at the present time to decline will, no doubt, limit exports te mederattly-sizcd lines. The limit of merchants' offerings at country stations is £8 10s per ton, with little disposition of growers to sell. Evidence as to the general scarcity of wheat is causing some concern to the millers. Even oats continue firm, but with no alteration in price. Quotations for Gartons' are -Is 2d to 4s -id, at country .stations. However dealings are practically confined to those between merchants. There has been a sharp inquiry for chuff during the past few days, both I for local and jnortheni requirements and a line of 400 sacks was sold to-day S '.or Auckland at £6 17s 6d per ton and for a line of heavy, bright oaten-sheaf, . for local requirements, £7 was paid, prices being at country stations.
