WAIMATE HOSPITAL COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The usual monthly meeting; of thei Waimate Hospital Committee was hold in the: Hospital buildings yesterday afternoon. Present: Mr (ieddis (chairman), Mrs Orbell, Messrs Henderson, liutt, Atwill, Pollock, Dash, and Brown. Mr Inkster sent, an apology for absence.

The Chairman reported patients' payments lor the month to be* £ls Is Bd, and accounts presented tor payment £264 4s 6d. During the. month the gardener had resigned. Applications had been called, to fill the vacancy, and' would be considered at that meeting.

The acting superintendent's report ■was read and adopted. The Matron's patients' returns were received as read. The Central Board wrote approving of the minutes of the Committee's last meeting. A letter from the acting superintends en.t to the chairman was read giving details of articles urgently needed. —The Chairman reported, that lie had ordered the goods, and his net-in was approved.

The resignation of S. T. Lidstone (gardener) was read and accepted.— The Chainman stated that- he. had engaged a gardener temporarily. Messrs Par,ke, Davis, ana' Co. (Sydney) wrote crediting the committer's account with the value of goods short shipped.—Received. The Auditor-General wrote stating that having read the letter of explanation from the solicitor of the late Mr M'Lean, he. was, still' of opinion thati the money in, question (must, rbe paid over to the Central Boafd.—The Chairman- reported that .the money hadi tteea paid over as- .instructed. . ■ A letter was received front;lnspector Menzies, explaining the overchargei made'by a contractor in connection, with the new range just installed in tho institution. He had examined, the work, and. recommended the account to bet passed.—Received. Thci Visiting Committee reported a leakage ill a cistern. Inspector Menzies had inspected this, and recommended a new one, which had been ordered by the Chairman. Mrs Orbell submitted' a list of linens, etc., at present in stock at the Hospit-'i. and . also a. list from Dr Cruiokshanksi of new articles which she thought neces«iirv, at an; estimated cost of about £7O.

After considerable discussion, it was decided that the stock of linens, o.tc., ■is sufficient under normal circumstances, but ill view of the large increase ini patients during the past year the list be considered when the estimates are made up in March. It was reported that- the Matron was away on holidays, and' Sister Eggleton. was in charge. . Mr Geddes reported that lack of sufficient nailing .in the roof above the" nurses' quarters was loading to leaking. Accounts amounting to £264 4s ■6d were passed for payment. Applications for the position of'gardener were considered' in Committee, and Mr W. E. Too ley, the relieving .gardener, was appointed.
