LIEUTENANT GRIERSON.
MU ALLEN IXTKKVIEWKD. {Special to the Onmani Mail.) Wellington. April 13. The Minister, of Defence, asked liy your correspondent what action _ was "proposed to U- taken respecting Lieut. Gricrsnu following the Commission's report, said that only out* decision v.apossible. There was no reason ivhy he should not go Ijsif-k to duty. Tin- man lias, said Mr Allen, heen proved ol" British descent, and loyal. One admires encrgv and enthusiasm when rightly directed, hut when it liecoincs unjust in tin; extreme it defeats its own ends. So far as the Commission of In«|uiry is concerned, a hody of people taking up work ol" that kind must use good judgment and not lie led astray hy idle talk. They must carefully examine into avery rase. There is no justification for some of the proceedings which took place in connection with the AniiGerniau League's action against Lieut, tirierson. I hope these people consider how terribly unjust actions of this kind may prove not only to the men themselves hut to their relatives and descendants. I know some ladles connected with the Ijeague have children of their own. and 1" want to know whether, if they have appreciated the position of. Orierson's mother, how would they Jike to he put so unjustly into that position. The Xew Zealand Times attacks the Administration for employing Government servants to make the inquiry when CSrier.soii had legal remedy. The greatest -mystery, it atlds. is involved in the rapid promotion of (>rierson. Supposedly Orierson was a complete stranger and certainly without military training, yet he was appointed to a lieutenancy in the course of a few weeks.
