SHORTAGE OF BOTTOMS.

Pkk Press Association. - Greymouth, April 'l4. The West- Coast timber industry is seriously hampered by the shortage of .shipping. There are -some thousands of pounds* worth or timber on the skids, hut the millers are unable to fulfil orders owing to the paucity of ships. The Union Company explain that they cannot fulfil engagements, as the Beet is virtually commandeered for national purpose's. At a meeting of thr: Chamber of Commerce r. resolution "was passed to approach the Government to see if the position can ce ameliorated cy the release of ships, fa- ameliorated by the-release of ships, all mills will close down at an earfv date.
