DEATH OF FAMOUS IRISH DETECTIVE.
Irish political crime, of the past half-t-eiitury are recalled by the sudden death in October of" Ireland'.- leading detective, Mr John Malli.n. J.P.. vx-Asslstant Commissioner i f the Dublin Metropolitan Police.
Joining the force as a constable in 1858. There the two book's were discovered tied together "in a sack. It was Mallon who, after months of search, brought-the mur-de-evs to conviction. Willi Davilt. Se.vtou. and Parnell, all of whom at different times he arrested, Mallon was on friendly terms. When tin- Phoenix Park tragedy .-•hocked the eountrv in 1882 Mr Mallon was at the head of the police who, a year later, bioitght to justice the murderers of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr Burks.
