OAMARU HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

The Oamar'u Hospital Trustees met last night- Thorn were present : Mr W H Hose (Clnii'rijia]]). and Messrs J. D. Grant, J). Hay. J. T. Oakden. J. 11. Milligan, F. Humphries. 11. G] onfell, W. Strachali. and W. W, Dawson. Accounts totalling £157 Ms ~d were passed for payment.

The Matron was empowered to purehn.vj the usual Christmas condiments. On the motion of the Chairman and Mr Dawson, a motion of appreciation was passed to ex-Mutron Koddie upon her promotion ia tile appointment to the hospital ship Maheno. The Minister of Public Health wrote : In view of the heavy and increasing expenditure caused throughout the Dominion by the war. and the difficulty likely to be experienced in consequer.ee by the' Government in carrying on absolutely necessary public works, the Minister of Hospitals bogs to urge upon all Hospital Boards the urgent and imperative ueed for economy', not only in administration, but jespeciallv in connection with the erection of new j buildings and other items which rni> result in increased charges upon the revenues of the Dominion. Certain e5i I>enditm-e, of course, is absolutely necessary, and that must lie provided for. but in every case where new buildings, extensions, or enlargements are proposed, the Minister trusts that he will be asked to approve only these which cannot |w>ssibly be postponed until alter the wat\ when it is hoped that the finances of the country will be normal ai-;a!n. In the meantime the Minister regards it as his duty, and trusts that in this he will be supported by the Boards, to keenly scrutinise every proposal which will result in. increased charges upon the natiohaf revenue.— I The letter was received.

The Matron reiwrted that (luring tile month there were admitted to the hospital 20 patients, discharged 22. rmaining 18. Three patients died dining the month. Nine operations were performed..
