A beach fete was in progress, and hundreds of people were about at'the time. Efforts at rescue were unavailing, as M'Lean was not .seen, after he first sank. • The body has not yet been recovered. Another commercial traveller named Gilchrist, who was bathing with .M'Lean, had a, very narrow escape, being rescued at the last gasp.:/. A nasty surl' was running as the res'ult of .1 marine disturbance. And" several other parties were in trouble, notably the lifesaving team, while giving a demonstration.
