FRENCH AND AUSTRIANS IN NEW ZEALAND.
THE CALL TO MOBILISATION

The decision of the. French Government to effect a general mobilisation of its forces has been communicated to the Consul for France in New Zealand (M. Rigorcaii). A summons will be issued to all French -subjects, including reservists, to report themselves .to the Consul or his agents ill 'Wellington, Christchurch. or Dunedin, and to be prepared to sail for Franco at the earliest-, opportunity. Numerous iu(luirius were received, by the French Consul to-day as to whether the services of French residents in the Dominion would be required. Arrangements have not yet been completed for the conveyance of returning soldiers. Similar advice was received by the Austrian Consul (Mr Langguth) that -ai general mobilisation of the- Austrian forces has been ordered. Between 20 and 30 Austrian subjects have already 'responded to the summons issued last week, when a partial mobilisation was ordered. They are resident in Auckland, New Plymouth, Christchurcli, and' ■ Hokitika. Arrangements have been made for the first party to sail for Sydney next Monday, and it is expected that,about 100-men will begin their jQurney on that day. Anyone liable for service who neglects tho present summons will.bo treated as a deserter, and will forfeit tiny, property lio may possess in ther Austro-Hunga-rian Empire and tho right to inherit property.
