HOKITIKA THREATENED BY THE SEA.

Per Press Association. Hokitika, July 19. The Town Clerk of Hokitika has forwarded the following telegram to the .Minister of Public Works at Wellington, re the se;i encroachment: —"In order to correct the erroneous impression caused by mistaken adverse cri-tic-ism published, the Hokitika Borough Council on Friday night passed a resolution in appreciation of yojir efforts, and recognising that your engineers are doing all that can be done to protect the town. —(Signed) Perry, Mayor." Speaking to the resolution the Mayor deprecated the statements appearing in certain papers as an attempt to make political capital. All the Ministers and members on both sides of the House had rendered assistance, and the Government engineers were handling the . position in the best manner under the circumstances. Councillors endorsed the statements of the Mayor, and the appieoiative resolution was carried unanimously.
