Before the Tariff Commission a. witness who was opposing; the demand' for the imposition of a duty on pyrites, nowadmitted free, gave evidence that the. manufacture of artificial manures had greatly 'increased during the past five years, instancing the fact that a Melbourne firm was selling phosphates, and that New Zealand was successfully competing with Jnnnn in phosphate manufacture.
