The Commonwealth" Statistician publishes statistics dealing with the mortality of single and married persons. In tile case of males the rate of mortality is markedly lighter for married in en'throughout life. At some important ages the rate for single men is 50, GO. and even 70 per centum in. excess of that for married men of corresponding aae. In the case of females the opposite tendency holds. Between the ages of 15 and 44 inclusive the rate l'ov married females ranges from 60 to 80 per centum in excess of that for singe women. Selective influence in matrimoiiv uiid the consequent rejection, of uus-u'itables is considered an important, factor, particularly in the case of males.
