One day last week (the Southland News states) a young lady employed in an Invercargill establishment took to her work a parcel containing a nightdress and a hot-water bottle, it being her intention to attend a party afc a
friend's place, where she had been invited to stay "overnight. A fellow employee also 'brought a parcel to work, and this contained a military coat. Slio was to proceed to Bluff and lend tho coat to a young man for tho purposo of wearing it that night at a fancy dress ball." Fate decreed that the parcels should become mixed before the day's work had concluded. Oue can well imagine the look of surpriso and disappointment on the face of the young lady at the party, when in the early hours of the cold morning she miwrapped her parcel and discovered that the only comforter for her icy toes was a khaki garment, with cold brass buttons. The statement which emanated from the gentleman at Bluff with respect to his discovery is not reported. Mr J. A. Macpherson has decided to contest the Oamaru seat as the nominee of the Oamaru Liberal Association. This morning the Executive of the Association met Mr Macpherson and lormally conveyed to him the wishes of the Association, and an assurance that should he be pleased to accede to the request that he would receive the heartiest support of Liberals throughout the electorate. In his rcplv Mr Macpherson said that, unlike the young politician, he had ceiased to be attracted by the glamor ol Parliamentary life. To be successful as the 'representative of a constituency meant hard work and unwavering zeal in the-public interest, and tin's entailed much self-sacrifice, and made great inroteids on. one's home life. Still he recognised that one had his duties to the public, and if he could he of auy assistance to the Liberal party in winning back the scat he considered ho would be failing in a matter of duty were he not to render all the help he could. Mr Macphersoir said he w.as pleiased to hear that the Liberals wore organising well, as it was largely owing to the superior organisation of tho other side that thev won theseat last election. On riving'his decision Mr Macpherson was ioudlv applauded;. Mr R. Milhgan (chairman) acted as chief spokesman for the Executive.
