WAITAKI LICENSING COMMITTEE.
(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) The finnnal meeting was held at the Waimate Courthouse yesterday afternoon . Present: Messrs G. 'V. Day (chairman), Studholme, Beckett, Ruddenklau, and Bradley. All renewals an<l transfers applied for were granted, with the exception of the 'Royal'Hotel, Waimate (Mr'Craighead), and the TTakatarainoa Hotel (Mr Bankin). In the case of the Royal .Hotel the police asked for repairs and renewals to the building. Mr Perry (for the licensee) stated Lhafc extensive additions would he made to the building after the next licensing poll if continuation was carried, and the Committee decided to adjourn the application from lime to time until after file result- of the licensing poll is known. fn the case of the TTakataramen Hotel, the application was adjourned in order to allow pressure to bo brought on the owner to repair the building. The Committee . expressed pleasure with the satisfactory nature of the police reports. The Chairman considered that the police sometimes went t-oo far in their reports by introducing hearsay matter. If the police had not sufficient evidence to warrant a prosecution then they should not mention the matter in their reports, as the Committee was not a judicial body.
