PARIS JEWEL THIEF A GENUINE COUNT.

Count: Maximilian von Montgelas, who -with five accomplices was arrested yesterday for the . attempted' theft of jewellery worth £24,000 from a. jeweller's shop in the Rue Royale, is the holder of a genuine _ Bavarian title. His family disowned him long ago owing to his bad conduct. His wife, who was also arrested, is the divorced wife of an .. Austrian army officer. His sister is the Countess Elizabeth von JUontgelas, one of the richest chatelaines in Germany. A Paris wholesale dealer had sent a stock of jewellery to the retailer's m charge of one of his representatives. The jewellery was in two sacks, which were placed in a handcart drawn by another niau. This man and the representative of the wholesaler noticed that they were being followed and notified the police. The representative of the wholesaler entered the shop in. the Rue Royale and the man who was pulling it purposely stopped the' fyandeart. and walked away. Just then the gang pounced upon the cart and took one sack, which they "broke open. The police, who had been watching them, rushed up and arrested all sis.
