UNIVERSAL PICTURES. The popular Universal Pictures, which • have been conducted of late in a. manner tlia-t was decidedly pleasing and interesting to all lovers of good pictures, are now; under new management, who, we are advised, will leave to stone unturned to hold and increase the well-d'eserved 1 popularity. It is a matter of opinion as to whether a change like this is conducive to better business or whether the new owners' are going to have difficulty in holding the public interest; but we have no hesitation in saying that, if the new management carry out their present excellent intention, they will merit the Oamaru public's whole-hearted co-ope-ration. Pictures such as are now "being .released! have become part of every-day life, and it is in the interests of the showman to procure the very best films obtainable. This the presentmanagement of the Universal Pictures are determined to do, and the Oamaru public wifl no doubt their appreciation by supporting the firm to the fullest. The opening ran under the new conditions will he held, tonight, when a specially-selected holiday programme will be- screened. A glance at. the advertisement in; another column will give some idea- of the general excellence of the series to be shown. The star film is Kalem's thrilling dramatic story, "An Unseen Enemy." The Thanhouser Company are well represented in "Rural Route," and one of the biggest laughter-makers presented in Oama.ni will be seen in "Fatty Joins the Force," The remainder of the pro- ' gramme comprises an excellent array of scenic, topical, dramatic, and comic subjects.
