WAIMATE SHEEP DOG TRIAL CLUB.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

A meeting of the .above was held on Saturday last, when the Secretary presented a rough balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £2O. which will probably be increased to about £3O by the end of the year. Messrs J. Henderson. ■ I'!. C. Stndholme, M. M'Rae. M, Eliiofc. Bruce Gillies, and IS. ,P. Whitney wore appointed :i committee to draw up a programme of Jieces>ary improvements for next season's trials and submit same io the annual raoeting.

I\lr Gillies «ti<l a lot of n Iterations wore necessary, particularly in the huntaway class. This was amply proved by the number of good dogs that failed. He thought that competitors should be allowed to drive then- .sheep at least 100 yards before starting to limit. Under the present conditions nothing but an old dog. which was too slow for ordinary work, had a eh n nee. Several members endorsed Mr Gillies' remarks, and it was thought probable a local class would be added next year and there would lie several necessary alterations.

Votes of thank.;; wore passed to Messrs E. C. Studhohno, C. I). Taail'e. Guinness and LeOren, and Ulo.se in charge of the stepping and guessing competitions.

Mr M ; llae said thai" a lot of credit was due to the Kecretary. and he had much pleasure in proposing that a donation of sgns be granted him. Mr Gillies seconded, lie said he noticed that when a club got a good secretary at the start it always prospered if they stuck to him, Mr A. Judge also spoke- in terms of praise of the way Mr Whitney. had started the club and stuck to it as he had clone. Mr Vv'hitney thanked members for their kindness. He had not- expected any remuneration, as it was his wish to'keep the Club in a . good financial position. If they had thai they could do anything. At the conclusion of the meeting the members adjourned to the 3?oval Hotel, when the medals given by Mr Craighead were presented, and after a pleasant hour the members dispersed.
