ELEVEN MEN KILLED

Received June 1, at 10.30 a.m. London, May 31. In a gas explosion at Silkstono colliery, Wharneliffe, eleven men wore killed.

Rescuers after three hours' dangerous work brought injured men to the surface, but they mostly succumbed.

The news caused the breaking up of the cricket match and other sports, and a wild stampede to tho pithead.
