ACCIDENT TO THE MAORI. .#/. 1 . ~ Christchurch, 'December 12..' -In ■order to make a thorough ' irivestigfttjoh of tbe injuries to'the bow of-tfeifei-ry steamer Maori, as the"l-e----siiijt of : ier collision with the New Zealand Shipping; Company's liner Rualiirie at Wellington on Saturday night, the Lytteltoii Harbor Board diver (Mr M'Lean) 'was engaged this morning in surveying the vessel below the waterline] Mr Betlmme, the Inspector of Machinery, was also present. The diver reported tliat everything below the -waterline was intact, and that the tow rudder had not sustained any iriaterial -injury, and this was subsequently'borne out by tlie rudder being given 'a. trial. Above the waterline the bow shows distinct signs of • the <S>nisi<Jn, more particularly the stem of, the bow. The vessel is. however, watery-and the Inspector of Machinery reported' that she was perfectly _ seaworthy. . As the* extent of the injuries are chiefly confined to above the waterand the fact- that the bow rudder is undamaged.
