I lie barque Antiope, from ISureka, reports sighting; the French barque Latour d'Auvergno, in ballast, from Tahiti to r Ne\v Caledonia, ashore* a .total wreck, on PalmeTston Island. Received December 22, at 9.20 a.m. Sydney, December 22. Details of tho wreck of the Latour d'Auvergno show that tho captain, boarded tho Antiope off Palmerston Isihtrtl 'on Novmber 12tli and reported that-'-the vessel struck .a reef on the ■ niii'&t'ipt'the 23rd October. Next da.V tlie ueu of 23 jyul a lady passenger (Mrs Pick, of Sydney) landed with tho assistance of natives from tho adjoining. Islands, and tents were pitched ashore, plenty of food .being available from the ship's stores. All were well when tho .Antiope left, excepting the lady, whoso mind was stated to be temporarily de.ranged: through the troubles attending the wreck. The captain of the wrecked barque asked the Antiope to take all the marooned people to Sydney, but this was impossible, and the Antiope offered to talio .15. This offer was declined, the captain deciding to keep the crew together in anticipation of the early visit of a schdoner to the island, which 'would carry them to TJga. Ho asked the Antiope to report to the owners in Havre. . The Latoiu- d'Auvergno is broken .amidhsips and is lull ol water. Tho wreck Ms been sold to a trader for £9O. ' ■;
