DF.FKNCK IN THE PACIFIC

[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.] (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, December 18. Defence circles take si keen interest in Mr Allen's visit. It is considered certain the Admiralty will advise New Zealand to join Australia in an Australian navy. Mr Allen has arrived,: and an official reception will be given on Saturday. He will bo'entertained by the Government at luncheon, on Monday. Received December 19, at .10 a.m. Sydney, December 19.

The Herald, .commenting on the growing mutual attitude between Australia and New Zealand, .says perhaps the Dominion is beginning to recognise that 'the difficulties and responsibilities of its lot are greater than they appeared at the first, flush of enthusiasm ■■; perhaps -the darkening clouds of the international situation have taught a lesson similar to xEsop's fable of the bundle of sticks; at any rate there appears to be a growing sense that in matters relating to national integrity and the integrity of the Pacific and the British Empire our interests are not individual but .identical.. In order .ito further our joint destinies there is no necessity for New Zealand to sacrifice a vestige of her individuality.
