TASMANIA'S GOVERNOR.
IS HE ACCEPTABLE?
[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.] (Pep. Press Association.) Received December 18, at 2.30 p.m. London, December 17. In the House of Commons Mr Swift MacNeill drew attention to the Hon. Ellison-Macartney's election to tha House of Commons in the; Orange interest for South Antrim in. 1885, and his action when Deputy-Master in expressing Unionist political opinions in regard to the West Down election; which was questioned in the House of Coriinions on April 27th, 1904. Mr MacNeill also asked whether the appointment is acceptable to the people of Tasmania, who aro supporters of Home Rule, and who contain a large Irish Nationalist element. '
Mr Harcourt replied that lie was satisfied that both in experience and capacity he would make a suitable and acceptable Governor. He had satisfied' himself before submitting his name to the King and for the Tasmanian Government's concurrence.
