LIVINGSTONE NOTES.

The weather during the last week has been very hot. and the growth of troys' of all descriptions has been most marked. A few hours' rain would ho of .immense benefit, especially to turnips, which, j! 1 recently sown, require rain to ensure : a good strike. | There has been a lot of sickness here of late, that scourge, la grippe, haying, paid us another visit, and old and young have been attacked by the complaint in varying degrees of severity, in some instances necessitating a visit from (he doctor. The attendance at the school was so much affected that it was deemed advisable to close for a few days. On Friday evening last a very successful concert'in aid of the funds of the local Tenis Club was held in the hall,which was well filled, and the Tennis Committee have every reason to be gratified at the result of their appeal -tothe pnblic. Among the"items oh"'the lengthy programme were several by-the school "girls, "which were very well given; and much appreciated, and to Mrs GubV bin's :(teacher) a special word of praise is: due "-for the very creditable performr'ance of her pupils. Miss Eileen M'Qiiado',' played the^ opening overtures in a very'' creditable manner. "Songs were rendered hv'Mrs F. Smith, Misses Thomas and Grev. and Messrs Newland, Peat, Dolh son," Roberts; and S. Wilson (Tokarahi), who brought down the house-with liis comic .varieties. A humorous . duet,. entitled- "Money Matters." by Messrs "Wilson and Peat brought the programme to a close. Refreshments were then handed round and the hall was cleared; for dancing.' Mr J. Cook making 'an efficient M.O.
