THE EDUCATION COMMISSION.

Auckland. .June 7. The Education Commission devoted this morning to a tour of the schools. When the Commission resumed Mr E. C. Purdie, formerly a teacher and inspector under the Auckland Board, brought forward his scheme for reorganisation of certain standards in the primary schools, and for classification of children of varying mental capacity. Roughly his idea was to concentrate in three large centres the higher standards —namely. 4, ~>. and 6. He mentioned that.his proposal would make lor .economy and" efficiency, and had been, universally commended. He felt sure the country which adopted his scheme of grouping the upper sta-ii-ci'ards in the schools would make great strides. The witness thought the work of inspectorscould be made much more effective " : f each one had charge of a. definite district and was made lesponsible for the state of the schools ia his distiict.
