AMUSEMENTS.

. - UNIVERSAL PICTURES. American, picture-plays axe without doubt.favorites with picture-goers. The productions seem to be more attractive - and more novel than others, and often grand views of the rugged and wild western scenery and the more marvellous and interesting Views of the huge buildings in the great cities are shown. The acting, too, seems to have a charm, white the "films are nothing if not mag-' nificently staged and clearly, produced. To-night, at the Opera House, no less seven American- plays are to be shown. -Two of the Essariy Company's popular Wild West stories, with any amount of 'cowboys, outlaws, revolver shooting, so attractive to the young, will be sliown. Then the deeper and more dramatic A.B, ,and Tanhouser stories are well represented', and one of each of these company's productions is on the list. Three out of the four comedies to be screened-_ are -also; by American.producers, 1 the A.8., Edison, and Vitagraph Companies being represented in this portion : " of the programme. Other films of an interesting and instructive nature make up a bill-of-fare which should attract a large audience. '

HAY WARDS' PICTURES

The final progranirhe which has been running a,t the Picture Palace during the past two night will be screened for /the last time this evening.- "The Crime and the Criminal" is a drama of great power, in which some fine views of Sydney harbor are introduced. "A Tale of the"'Wilderriess" is Indian, arid as such has hosts of admirers amongst the younger generation. .Another Indian picture is "Komata the Sioux/' in which the excitement is well sustained. "Tweedledum" and "Gontran as Hero" supply part of the comic element, and these films cause considerable amusement. The programme, all through, is a good«orie, and those who visit the Picture Palace should come away highly pleased, with their entertainment. ,
