AMUSEMENTS.

HAYWARD'S PICTURES,

"The-Grip of Alcohol" is the main film in the programme now running at the Picture Palace, and it is one of the most powerful expositions of the degrading influences of Jiquor when taken in excess that lias yet been presented to the public. It is as powerful in its representation as the drama of "Drink," and that is lurid enough.. Through the father giving way to drink, followed by the son in the sanie direction, the whole family comes to grief, the wife: suffocating herself and her only daughter. The picture should have a marked, impression on the minds of the young. The representation of the various characters is made by artists high in their calling. "Bob's Electric Theatre" is a colored comic of a nature that compels one to laugh, and the same time arousing the interest of the onlooker. "The Message" is an A.B. drama of considerable power, and "The Secret of the Locket" is another film which lias the interest of the onlooker centred upon it. But these all receive support from a capital array of trick pictures, comics and scenics.

The same programme will be repeated this evening.

UNIVERSAL PICTURES

There was the usual large audience at the Opera House last evening, when an excellent programme was screened to "the accompaniment of tuneful music. The principal subject was "Saving the Special," an exciting railway story, the production of the Vitagrapli Co. of America. The rest of the programme was well up to the usual high standard,' and judging by the amount of applause it met with appreciation of every one in the huge audience. To-morrow afternoon the usual matinee is to be held, and the usual entertainment takes place to-morrow evening. Full particulars will appear in tomorrow's issue.
