WARATAH WRECK RECALLED.
(Per Press Association.)
Auckland. December 28. [
Inquiry made regarding the lifebiioy washed ashore at Waiuku does not elicit anything definite as to the vessel to which it belonged. The buoy was found by children and was subsequent: !ly seen by three men. who state that it bore the letters "Warat," and they traced two other letters which they concluded : 'made- ''W'aratah" ; also something resembling a Hag and anchor. The buoy was heavily waterlogged, and covered with barnacles. The children subsequently, in washing off the barnacles, destroyed, the lettering, but presumably the outlines would be traceable by microscopic examination. If the buoy belonged to the steamer Waratah ; t rniv hav> been lost while she was on the 'Australian-coari.
