Bardsley retired: hurt, the first ball of Armstrong's over striking him in the side and tearing away the cartilage on the lower rib. He will, be unable to play further in the present match, and probably not in the test. THE ENGLISH TEAM. Sj-dney, December 26. The Englishmen commenced a twodays match at Bendigo agaist-a. district fifteen. England in their first innings made 176—Hobbs 67, Hearne 21, Douglas (not out) 19. PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. (Peb Pkess Association.) ' Christcliurch, December 26. In the Plunket Shield match between Canterbury and Otago the heavy rain all day on Monday left the ground very heavy, and play could not be resumed until 2 p.m. to-day. The wicket was exceedingly difficult, and the remaining eight Otago wickets only added 90.
