SCHOOL VACATIONS.

UAKATARAMEA VALLEY. —Sunday School. —■ The Sunday School concert- and entertainment was held in the school on Thur.-dav ev.-ninL'. "Dad's Old Trousers,'' Master Malcolm M'lver; .song, "Sleep. baby mine." junior girls; dialogue, "Who is the head ot" the house?": recitation, "The Quack Doctor," Master Alex. Ramsay; "Ten Little Nigger Boys"; recitation, "Worries of a mistress," Miss Lily Milne: dialogue, "A Drunkard Reclaimed";] song, "My home is far away," by the i children; songs were also sung byMessrs Read, M'Lean, and 31'Callura. Their, songs were highly appreciated and all of them encored. A reading was given by Mr Tomlinson. Votes of thanks were given to Miss Milne (superintendent of the Sunday School) and to her sister (Miss Maggie Milne) for their care and pains in preparing the school children for their performances; to the singers and reciters, inchiding the children; to the ladies providing the refreshments; to the audience for their presence; and a special vote of thanks to Mr AVm. Read and Mr James ißrown for very valuable services rendered.

—Day School.—

The, day school prizes were then distributed by Mr-Hayes, who made some well-timed remarks on New Zealand education in tho backblocks. In his remarks he spoke very highly of the country schoolmasters of New Zealand. A voto of thanks was accorded to Mr Hayes and to the State teacher (Mr Tomlinson) for his successful work of the year. A very enjoyable dance, interspersed with songs followed. Songs by' Messrs Gillmore and Daly were highly appreciated, and deservedly so; Miss Young gave a delightful rendering of the Highland fling. The musicians were accorded an unanimous vote of thanks for their efficient and gratuitous services. A vote of thanks was likewise granted to the M.C. (Mr M/llwraith). The dance was prolonged until 3 o'clock in the morning, when "Auld Lang Syne" was sung and the people soon moved homeward. The following is the prize-list:— Standard VI. —Lilv Milne, Annie Park.

MAEREWHENUA. The annual distribution of prizes at the Maorewhenua School was hold on Tliursdav. 21st December.. Owing to the wet dav there was only a small attendance. Mr J.
