A sensation lias been caused by the I publication of statements authorised by the Tliiel detective agency that Mr Taft incited Mr Hearst to flood Canada with election literature favoring reciprocity. Mr Borden, the Conservative leader, has issued a manifesto pointing out that reciprocity means the final absorption of the Canadian fiscal system in that'df the United States. Received September 20, at 1.10 a.m.- ; - I Ottawa, September.'l 9; - Further sensational disclosures havo I been madei that Mr Taft arranged with ! Mr Hearst to send a special correspondent to Ottawa to conduct the campaign on behalf of reciprocity and''in aid; of the Liberals in the fight. A sterm has been aroused throughout the, Dominion. The Conservative journals accuse Mr Taft- of being an arch-plotter and interfering with a foreign country's politics to bolster up the failing fortunes of the Republican Party. .. It is stated that Hearst's representative is a close friend of "Mr Taft's and had arranged to participate in Mr Taft's tour in September, but urgent orders sent, him to Ottawa. ' . There is also an election scandal in Quebec East. Sir W. Laurier's opponent asserts that he was offered a large sum of money of he would retire., His opponents declare that Leduc offered to retire if he was given a position, espe-. ciallj\that of secretary to the Canadian Commission in Paris. Arrests are said to be imminent.
