WAIMATE NOTES.
(From. Our Own Correspondent.) Tlie" Waimate Homing Pigeon dub held an inter-loft race on Thursday. Thirty-two birds competed, representing eleven owners. The course was-from Cliristchurcb, a distance of 113 miles. The race was the most successful so far this season, two birds (one owned by Mr H. Wilce and the other by Mr J.> S. Butcher) making-a dead ; .heat in. the excellent time of: 2hr 20min: 18sec. The third, bird (owned by Master C. Butcher) got home in 2hr 21min: t ;Tlie Waimate Oddfellows' Hall was picked last night,- when the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Massey, delivered-a political address.- His Worship the Miiyor (Mr N. Ejraiicis) oeeupi^'ytlie' fcbairj-and the. following occupiedjseats on the stage:—Mr A. C. Hardy (Selwyn), Mr F. Smith (Albury), Mr R. Meredith, and Mr E. Richard. Mr Massey spoke for two hours and ,ie- v ceived a very good hearing. Several questions were asked and answered, and a vote of thanks, proposed by Mr Geo. Dash and seconded by Sir R. Meredith, was carried by acclamation':
