WAITAKI COLLIE DOG CLUB.

(From Our Special Reporter.) The twenty-sixth annual trials commenced at Hakataramea yesterday on property kindlv placed at the Club's disposal bv Mr W. H. Ross. A rather cold stiff wind blew during the morning, and tln* was had. The attendance was meagre at the commencement, hut improved considerably as the afternoon wore on. The entries totalled 08, and are the lowest since 1899. This is accounted fop by many of the dogs being engaged on the stations. Indeed, mustering that should have been completed, a fortnight ago is now in full swing, having been delayed by the recent wet weatlier. The numerical strength of the entrv list has suffered considerably in consequence, and whereas the stations in the vicinity are usually represented bv two or more competitors, tliLs year tiiev fail entirely to figure on the list. The long-distance class was commenced punctually to time, hut the work done, with the "exception of that of the winner, did not reach a high standard. The winners' performance was indeed an outstanding one, and the owner was successful in annexing the second, money also. A start was made with the yarding classes, and from appearances better work may he expected. All appointments for tlie meeting were in readiness, and the long day's programme was carried through without hitch or interruption. The Club's popular President, Mr X. Hayes, made his presence felt throughout* the day, and the indefatigable Secretary, Mr W. H. .Ross, along with the other officials gave every attention to the duties pertaining to their positions.
