WANGANUI HARBOR.

(Pun PnEss Association.) Wanganui, March 17. The Harbor Board Engineer and the Harbormaster went out on the bar afc high water this morning, and made very careful .soundings, -as the result of which they found a record minimum depth of not less than 'lB feet in the centres of tile fairway. Another satsifactory feature disclosed by the soundings is that, the water is deepening between the moles, now in course of construction, owing to the lowering of the bar. land the concentration of tlio ebb tides between tlie moles. This is an improvement of 2ft on last soundings taken a month ago. The Engineer states that the increased depth is due entirely to the influence of the works, the concentration of the channel _ over the; bar, and increased.scour occasioned thereby without any assistance from flood waters. The Engineer expresses the opinion that a further increase of 2ft may be expected very shortly, as the works are pushed out further.
