Of the 11 competitions to be held, two were got off—viz., the .two-men coupling (dry) and the one-man manual event. The high-pressure borough water supply was very favorably commented upon bv. the..competitors, whose general verdict . was that it was admirably, suited for competition work. . Sixty teams competed, in the coupling.-and 24 in the manual events. Results : ■ • Dry feupJing —Masterton, 38sec, 1; South Dunediu (inclusive penalty 2sec) and, Hokitika (Isec -penalty) ; tied for second place, with a; time of 39 2-ssec. ,TM tiei is to be fuii off on Monday. Hamilton was placed fourth, time 40see (mcluding 3sec penalty); Hastings; fifth 40_2-ssec (including 3sec penalty); Hillside; Railway, sixth, 41.4-ssec (includln& 2see penalty); Timaru, ,42 l-ssec, feed for seventh place -with Auckland Railway (Isec penalty). Other competitor w^ere:—Carterton 43sec, Napier 43 2-6 sec" Wanganui 43 3-ssec, Patea 43 4-ssec, Dunedin South 44sec, . Dannevirke 45sec,. Newmarket 46 3-ssee, Mosgiel .47 2-ssec. The standard was reduced from time to time to-aslow as 42see, and a number of the teams were 'blown out," consequently their times I were not recorded. One-man Manual Event.—Timaru,37 1-nsec,. I; Hokitika, 40sec, 2; Dunedin City, 40 3-osec, 3; Geraldine, 41sec (including 3sec penalty), 4; Timaru Railway and Masterton, 42 2-ssec, dead , heat; Greymouth 43sec (Isec penalfcv),. Hastings 44 2-ssec, Napier 4S l-ssee (ssec penalty;, Greytown 45 2-ssec, Carterton 46spc (Isec penalty), Lower Hutt 48 2-osec, Patea 51 1-osee (3sec penaltj-).' The standard being reduced from time to time, the following teams were "blown out"; —Te Kuiti, Kaiapoi, Invercargill, Knmara, Waverley, Dannevirke, Hastings Police, Wanganui, and Spit. The following are the -first six teams out of the 25 who have so far competed in the reel and ladder (wet) event: — Timaru 59 3-ssec, Invercargill 61 4-ssee, Wanganui 62 2-oseo (4sec penalty), Dun. edin City 66 2-ssec, Naseby 67 4-ssoc, Roslyn 68 2-osec (Isec penalty). Caversham, Stratford, Reefton, Napier, and Hokitika teams were disqualified. The . last-menfioned has entered a protest.-
